Skip, Megan Smith: Born in Sudbury, Ontario on the 16th of October, 1997. Since the age of 3 curling has been a huge part of Megan's life. She has been skipping for 4 years, and apart from her competitive successes, Megan has led her high school curling team to two NOSSA finals and a city championship. When Megan is not on the ice, she spends her time at the boathouse rowing for her high school, and at Laurentian University training for cross-country running and track and field. She also enjoys hitting the gym with her teammates. Megan is currently an International Baccalaureate student at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and aspires to be a cardiac surgeon. Her long-term goal is to represent her country and win an Olympic gold medal.
Third, Kira Brunton: Born in Ottawa, Ontario on the 17th of March, 1999. The sport of curling has played a major role in Kira's life. Since the age of 5 Kira has been sliding up and down the sheets. This season Kira curled with the Lockerby Composite School Viking boys and brought home a City Championship and NOSSA banner, and managed to make the quarter finals at OFSAA. Curling is not Kira's only passion, she also plays Fastpitch softball and was selected for the Northern Ontario competitive team in 2013. She played on her highschool City Championship softball team and enjoys going to the gym. She has many aspirations for the future, including travel. Kira also dreams of representing Ontario at the Scotties and getting to the Olympic podium.
Second, Kate Sherry: Born in North Bay, Ontario on the 20th of October, 1999. Kate has been curling since she was nine years old. Shortly after joining the sport, she joined her first competitive team, and played out of the North Bay Granite Curling Club. She has been playing the sport competitively ever since. Kate played for the Widdifield Wildcats Varsity Girls Curling Team; skipping the team to a City Championship, NOSSA silver medal, and OFSAA appearance. She volunteers with the junior program at the North Bay Granite Club in hopes of inspiring young curlers. Kate also enjoys playing soccer. She has been playing for eleven years on recreational and competitive teams. When Kate is not on the ice, she is very focused on her studies. She also enjoys attending youth group. Kate is currently unsure of her future academic goals; however, she hopes to one day represent Northern Ontario at the Scotties.
Lead, Emma Johnson: Born in Sudbury, Ontario on the 20th of April, 1998. Emma experienced tremendous success in her first year of curling. The sport of curling quickly became second nature for her. Off the ice she prides herself in her studies, artistic abilities and school involvement. She is currently on student council and senate, and plays the guitar, piano, violin and sings. Emma plans on becoming a psychologist and currently attends Lockerby Composite School with Kira. Emma also plays soccer, and has enjoyed the beautiful game for 10 years. One day she hopes to represent the greatest country in the world at the Olympics!
Coach, Chris Johnson: Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Chris is a national curling champion who has been playing the game his entire life. In 1997, Chris won the Canadian Mixed National Curling Championship. He also participated in Olympic qualifying events in Ottawa and Halifax. Since the age of 15, Chris has participated in cash spiels, and is a former competitor on the World Curling Tour. He is the proud father of his two children, Emma and Marshall. Currently he has his level 2 coaching certification. In his time coaching he has taught the girls that perseverance and teamwork leads to success. He was 19 when he started coaching juniors, and coached his junior boys team out of North-West Ontario. He has also coached college curling, where they won three bronze medals, and two junior provincial runner-up teams.
